Fatal Newport Beach collison may have been intentional

According to investigators, a deadly collision in the Newport Beach area may have been caused intentionally.

Officers indicated that they were exploring whether a young man deliberately drove his Mercedes on to a highway in the area while traveling in the wrong direction. Police also indicated that the man was traveling at a high rate of speed, traveling at more than 100 miles per hour. Immediately prior to the accident, police received reports about a Mercedes driving erratically on the local roads.

The driver eventually slammed the Mercedes in to a BMW, killing the motorist inside. The young man was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries and has not been able to give a statement to police.

Police have said that they will continue to investigate the accident and that their work will likely take a long time to complete. They are conducting tests to determine if the young man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident.

No matter the outcome of the investigation, a Southern California family has lost a loved one who, according to one relative, was actively involved in a family business. There is no doubt that the woman will be missed and her loss felt profoundly.
